13th June 2003 Went to Lanes today and put the wheels in motion to take out the storage unit. Had a look around and decided we need a 95 sq foot unit (hopefully this will be big enough!). If we do need more room we can take out a larger unit and move everything into it - however, don't fancy doing that! Going to hopefully hire a van from local hire firm. 19th June 2003 Had tried to hire a van from the local hire firm we usually use but they didn't have the cheap van available, rang Lanes and we are now hiring one of their vans which are brand new and very clean inside (quite important when carrying sofas!). Kelvin's Dad gave Lauren and I a lift out to Lanes where we met Kelvin, filled in the hire paperwork and the storage unit paperwork. The van is really nice to drive (apparently). Loaded up the furniture and boxes from our house that are going to the storage unit. We are now sitting on two garden sun lounger chairs in the lounge as the sofa and chair has gone! (mmm bit of deja vu here! Weren't we doing this in January before we moved?!). 20th June 2003 Took Lauren to school in the van (she was well impressed!) and then went on to Lanes to unload the first load (which was in fact 1/2 a load!) There were some Lanes drivers unloading a storage unit from the first floor so obviously they wanted the lift to go down when we wanted it to go up (our unit is on the 2nd floor) - so they very kindly unloaded the van with Kelvin (I didn't actually have to lift anything!). Off to Mum's house then where everything else was loaded up, the sofa was duly wrapped in 25m of bubble wrap. Kelvin's Dad met us over at Lanes and helped unload the furniture, boxes and Duplo lego house which Kelvin had refused to take apart - till he accidentally dropped it on the ground and it fell apart completely! Everything is now in the storage unit but we still seem to have a house full of stuff! Not sure where it is all going. Had a slight bit of news that the builder MAY be able to start a bit earlier (apparently it is a big 'might' but we can live in hope). Have tried to speak to the architect about the building control plans but haven't had much luck yet - he is going to be sick and tired of the sound of me soon (best he hurried with the plans and then I'd go away and leave him alone!). June - a conclusion Are things finally happening? I hate to say that it doesn't feel like they are, we still don't have building control plans, we don't have a definate start date from the builder, we have moved out of our house and in with Mum and the majority of our possessions are either in the shed in the garden or a storage unit. Hopefully July will achieve something..... |
