1st October 2003

Mmm let me see what has happened this month? Quite a bit actually (although not all house related!) The farmhouse that is at the top of the lane where our house is became vacant (it is rented out). As it became frighteningly apparent that our house is nowhere near finished we decided to enquire about renting it ourselves. The landlady was quite happy for us to move in there on a month-to-month basis until our house is completed (I wonder if she realises how long this is going to actually take!). We duly moved in on 1st October - a very very hectic day. Kelvin hired a van and with the help of a chap he works with (thanks Glynn!) they emptied out our storage unit, took some of the stuff from there to Mum's house and the rest to the farmhouse, then all our stuff from Mum's place went to the farmhouse plus some stuff from Kelvin's parents! Even though all of that had to happen it was still alot easier than when we moved from Carharrack to the house in January! The farmhouse is very big so we are able to store all our boxes in it, spare furniture etc etc plus anything needed for our house can be kept here also.

8th October 2003

We are pleased to announce the newest member of our family! Billy Robert arrived today at 7.40pm weighing in at 8lb 12oz. OK, so the house wasn't finished by the time he arrived (but did we really think it would be?!) Best of all Billy arrived on Kelvin's Dad's birthday - a very happy Grandpa!

13th October 2003

This is the dining room, the hardcore has been laid and the damp proof membrane (DPM) is just going down. This is in preparation for the concrete floor.
Why when the concrete lorry arrives does EVERYONE suddenly want to get up and down the lane?!
The first lot of concrete has been tipped on the DPM in the dining room.
The dining room floor is complete!

The cement lorry arrived exactly on time and it was quite amusing watching a convoy of builders load up their wheelbarrows with cement. I had presumed it would have been pumped in but no apparently not. The dining room, lounge and kitchen floors have now been concreted and they have to be left to dry. We have quite a few cat foot prints in it - we were half expecting to come in and find cats cemented in!

Another big milestone this month was the blockwork being started in the kitchen, it is great to see a room actually taking shape, apparently the roof is going to be going on the kitchen next week (end of October) but I will believe it when I see it!

October 03 - a conclusion

This month had quite a bit of work done which was great but there was still a chunk of time when no builders were here (story of our life!). I had a chat with the builder about being back in time for Christmas - in his opinion we might be just ready so we agreed to have January as a date to come back. It would be unfair on Lauren to move back just before Christmas as we wouldn't be settled in time to enjoy the festivities. I feel relieved that blockwork is actually happening now, I began to think nothing would ever get 'built'. I know we still have a long way to go but it looks like we might be getting there .....
